• What I’ve done with HOYCC since September, 2020?
”Adaptation” is what the first 2 weeks means for every volunteer. We are a multicultural group and this year our group paid host to different nationalities.  After meeting and the adaptation period, our group has formed a great dynamic between the new volunteers. When starting our project, we had to […]
  • The Good Part of the Quarantine
Everybody of us had dreams, journeys, plans and whatever, that we wanted to do here. It’s difficult to accept that a big part of them won’t happen- at least this year. The closest thing to go to Scotland is gonna be buying a can of Scottish soup from Aldi. But […]

About us

I know, I know, everyone is kinda sick of hearing news stories about Corona (or COVID-19 or SARS-COV-2) and rather watches cat videos all day, to distract themselves from the current situation. But us European volunteers, want to provide you with a new kind of medium, for you to follow, what is going on at High Oak. For one part to keep ourselves sane, but also to give followers and members of the HOYCC-, former and future volunteers,- or just random visitors, who feel bored, insights about our life in Dudley, like you’ve never seen them before.

But who are we?

If you’ve snooped around our humble little website, you should be familiar with the fact that High Oak regularly works with a set of volunteers from all around Europe (ok for some reason, a big bunch always speaks German, but that’s another story). If you want more information about the European Solidarity Corps(the program we volunteer with) and Erasmus +, you should check out “projects” on the top page. This blog more functions as a fun and entertaining place to share some stories, reflections, recipes… basically whatever we can think of, while we are living through a major pandemic.

At the moment we are 8 volunteers and come from Austria, Germany, Romania, Spain and Turkey. You may hear from all of us; you may not, but if you want to know what kind of people are behind these texts, make sure to follow our Instagram! You will find out more about our individual stories over there (and feel free to ask any questions!)

We sincerely hope, that these messy times will be over as soon as possible, but also, that we can provide some kind of entertainment. Wouldn’t it be awesome, if we could keep this blog up as long as possible?

Well, enough babbling from me, all I can say now is: ENJOY!
